Use Talk URL to send messages by dictation. You just Tap to Talk. It's fast and safe.
So, it's pretty much just like leaving a voicemail for someone, right?
Yes. With Talk URL, you're using the web. You just click a link.
Where is the fine print about legal and privacy issues related to using Talk URL?
How is Talk URL private?
In addition to being ad-free, Talk URL protects your privacy in three more ways: Tap To Talk, The Minute Limit, and SSL and Discrete Keys.
Tap To Talk is a type of user interface (UI) that has a physical button to give you absolute control over when the microphone is turned off and on to dictate a message. The button is labeled with the words Tap To Talk. If you use virtual assistants then you know there's a voice command option. Using a voice command option means the microphone is always "listening" for the command. With your privacy in mind, Talk URL has a physical button instead of a voice command. When you see the Talk URL privacy shield you can be sure microphone is off after you click the button to stop it.
The Minute Limit is a privacy feature that automatically turns off the microphone after one minute, even if you don't click the button to stop it. Simply said, The Minute Limit makes it impossible for the microphone to be on for longer than 1 minute.
Discrete Keys is a critical security feature to ensure that no one can hack or steal messages from the cloud. Discrete Keys is a feature in our API layer that allows two discrete security keys (API keys) to be created for each Talk URL. Discrete Keys means that one API key is created for sending messages and a second API key is created for the message inbox.
Talk URL also uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for establishing an encrypted connection between the message server and your device. This feature ensures that your messages and all data passed between the web server and your browser remains private and integral.
Is any personal information being collected when I talk? When I send a message do you somehow use it to access to my Facebook or my Google account and send me political ads?
Where does my message go? When is it deleted?
Your message is processed in the cloud and delivered instantly. Your dictation is ephemeral. It's automatically deleted from the cloud after two weeks, only the transcription persists.
How do I stop it when I'm done talking?
Tap the microphone button when you're done talking. This immediately turns off the microphone. The Minute Limit feature turns off the microphone after 59 seconds, even if you don't.
When Talk URL has permission to access the microphone, does that mean the microphone is always on?
No, the microphone is turned off by the Minute Limit feature or when you tap the button after you finish talking.
You probably use camera apps and chat apps. When you install these apps, the app will request your permission to access the camera, microphone, and photos on your device. These apps only use the camera to take a photo. They only use the microphone when you want to talk or record a video.
In the same way, our web page only uses your microphone when turn it on by clicking Tap To Talk. It's important to note that when you allow our web page to access to the microphone, your browser or device usually remembers it. This is why some phones or browsers will still show a small microphone icon, red alert, or other notification after the microphone is off. This notification means the web page is still open and access to the microphone is remembered. We recommend to just close the web page if you want to remove the alert.
How do I know that Talk URL won't secretly record my private conversations?
That would be unethical and illegal. If you ever suspect that a web page, or a camera app, or a chat app is secretly recording you then you have a right to report it to the FBI here immediately. If you have any questions about Talk URL privacy technology please contact our Solution Desk.
What's so special about this technology?
Your message is sent online over the cloud instead of over a telephone network. The cloud is fast and secure. We use the cloud so you can send messages online for free without using up the minutes from your mobile plan.
What should I talk about?
You might be leaving a comment about a web site or in survey. You might be sending a message to someone you know who or responding to a company who asked for your feedback. Some people have even started using Talk URL as a shared team journal, group chat, or as a personal diary. It works just great for that! It's really up to you!
